  1. Stick to the perimeter

  2. Select whole foods (no need to read labels)

  3. Choose lots of color (color = nutrients)

  4. Beware of health claims (food marketing)

  5. Nothing in a package (fresh = real food)

  6. Fresh flavor & organic spices

  7. Pay more buy less (be sure you know what you are getting: ie. organic, free-range, grass-fed, hormone-free, antibiotic-free)

  8. Go to the Farmer’s market

  9. Label rules: Avoid food products with ingredient lists that are too long, difficult to pronounce, colors and numbers (rather than foods), or contain “high fructose corn syrup” and “hydrogenated” or “partially hydrogenated” oil
